 Position: Training Lead, Gujarati Language


About CSPC: Coastal Salinity Prevention Cell CSPC, a joint initiative of Aga Khan Rural Support program India (AKRSPI), Ambuja Cement Foundation (ACF) and TATA Trusts as per the solicitation of the Government of Gujarat, incorporated in the year 2008 under section 25 of Companies Act. CSPC is established as an organisation for the upliftment of rural communities through multiple social development programmes aimed at addressing drinking water and sanitation, agriculture and land development, natural resource management, health and education.

About the Project: The project aims to strengthen capacity of government schools to improve the quality of student learning in primary grades and strengthen the capacity of the head masters to practice strong academic leadership and administrative effectiveness.

The effort with the Head Masters would involve a school wide assessment based of a rubric recognized by the state, understand the ‘as- is’ situation, identify gaps and thereafter work with the school HM and teachers to bridge this gap. As part of efforts with the school, in-service teacher capacity building would be introduced within the larger framework of teacher professional development so that along with training's, appropriate avenues are created where HMs and teachers can get to interact, share practices and come up with solutions that can strengthen the standards of overall schooling process.

The above would be enabled through team presence at DIET, BRC and schools with clear objective of realizing enhancement in learning outcomes on a year on year basis.

Other than working with the HMs and teachers, the role of parents in supporting children and making schools accountable is going to be an important project component. Trust gap between schools and community in a way creates further challenges for students from first generation school going families. As part of this component, constant dialogue with the community members, capacity enhancement of SMC members and guiding members to be thoughtful and vocal participants of SMCs would be undertaken in one of the talukas along with engagement with the schools.
Location and Scale of the project: Devbhoomi Dwarka district of Gujarat. 96 schools with intensive engagement.

The concerned officer is going to be based out of Mithapur ( Dev Bhoomi Dwarka) Gujarat.

Role overview:


As part of this role, the candidate would work towards developing teacher competence on pedagogy of first and second language instruction. These sessions would be delivered as part of in-service teacher education component. The person should have strong understanding of Gujarati language and be proficient in various literary forms of the language so that he/she can introduce them to the teachers in an appropriate manner for teaching the students.

Role and Responsibilities:


i. To develop suitable training modules for Gujarati language pedagogy pertaining to oral, reading and writing competencies
ii. To develop the teacher’s capacity in Gujarati language pedagogy to work with students who come from first generation school going background
iii. To help teachers integrate children’s literature with literacy skills enhancement
iv. To prepare curricular material towards pedagogy skill development
v. To help teachers relate to the various forms of literary work in Gujarati and introduce them to the students
vi. To capture student progress and use the same for dissemination
vii. To motivate the teachers through creative ideas and energize classroom processes of teaching learning
viii. To support the field team personnel in engaging with government teachers and helping them improve
ix. Develop capacity of the teachers to assess student learning outcomes in Gujarati language


Specific qualification:

i. Candidate with a B.Ed or MA in Education with 4-5 years of work experience, particularly on language development.
ii. Strong Gujarati writing skills
iii. Interest and understanding of literary appreciation in Gujarati literature
iv. Strong understanding of pedagogy of first language
v. Sensitivity to the language issues of children from first generation school going families
vi. Strong listening capacity. Interest and ability to understand teacher’s learning needs
vii. Reflective orientation

Compensation: At par with standards in the social sector space.
